Information :: Consolidation

We were recently bringing our Facebook page up to date and created an “About Us” album in the process. We included a few links containing information about us and realised that it has been a little while since we have consolidated it all in one place on our blog. So here we are:

Us - Pete & Em - living our best life in Karnataka, India, on Christmas Eve, 2014.

Information :: The Aisle Conundrum

We love to chat all things wedding-related. We welcome all conversations - including the potentially awkward and challenging. If a topic is important to either of you, it is important to us, too. The reality is this: life is not always straightforward. Life does not have to be straightforward. It would be boring if it was! Weddings (and the resulting relationship dynamics as two families map out a future with both of them in it - or not in it, as the case might be) can be really convoluted - and that is okay. Your story is your story. If it helps, we are happy to work around any situation. At the end of the day, we are not being paid to judge your situation or circumstances - or story. We are there to fulfil our role of capturing your day - and the emotions involved - exactly as it unfolds. We find sometimes couples share the details of their day and the people involved almost apologetically or with caveats. We almost always interject and reassure that we do not need to know the intimate details if that is not comfortable for either or both of you. Of course, we are happy to listen if it is something that you want to share, though, and helps you to know that you are supported/understood. It is entirely up to you. Just know that we will not be judging/be surprised/curate your story to suit any bias you think we might have. After all, we can empathise; I (Em) was thrilled to have my wonderful uncle walk me down the aisle. I get that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to weddings that come in every shape and size possible. :)

Speaking of the aisle, here are just some variants we have seen/heard about when it comes to the Big Walk:

  • Bride herself

  • Bride & Groom together

  • Father

  • Mother

  • Father & Mother

  • Stepdad

  • Step-mum

  • Stepdad & Father (honestly - this is so amazing to see!)

  • Father-in-law (even royalty are no strangers to “nontraditional” family dynamics)

  • Grandfather

  • Grandmother (my - Em’s - personal favourite involvement of grandmother is as a flower “girl” - gets me every time!)

  • Godfather

  • Brother

  • Brother-in-law

  • Child/Children

  • Uncle

  • Aunt

  • Family friend

At the end of the day, you do you - whatever that looks like! We will be there with you every step of the way and would be delighted to capture the visual story from your day. Feel free to reach out!

Engagement :: J+S <3

John & Suzie - we cannot wait for their beautiful wedding next year! Both of them are committed to their family and, in fact, all of their shot requests featured family members/family moments important to both John & Suzie. Em took their engagement shots - in effect, another excuse to hang out with this lovely family (they shared how they go out regularly and do things as a family but then end up forgetting to capture the moment as they are so involved in making memories; so refreshing to see!). The shoot took place on a rainy afternoon but everyone made the best of it and made capturing the love between these two just delightful. John & Suzie, we hope all your planning goes smoothly and seamlessly. <3

Travel Diaries :: Fiji

Both of us are passionate about travel and exploring our world. We hope to pass this love of ours onto our little one, Chloe. Our travel adventures are never far from our memories - especially now that we are in the parent bunkers and going overseas is pretty much a day trip to Bribie Island!

I (Em) recently realised that it is 10 years this month since my first overseas adventure - all the way to Fiji. :) It was a wonderful experience made especially wonderful by the beautiful people who live there. I went off-the-beaten track (as much as you can on an island; Viti Levu, to be specific!) and immersed myself in the culture. I chose 35 images from my Fijian album to share. As these images are 10 years old, they are obviously not representative of our current work. I was torn about this and considered editing them to bring them up to date somewhat but decided to embrace the journey that photography has taken me on - flaws and all.

As we shared in our “About Us” post, it was this trip to Fiji that was a catalyst for my continuing journey with photography. It was such a privilege to capture this snapshot in time in a part of the world that was so new and fresh to me. I still sense this feeling of privilege whenever a couple chooses us to document moments that are important to them. I have a hunch that this feeling in itself will always feel new and fresh.

Enjoy!

Bridal Shoot :: Classic Garden Inspiration in Brisbane, Australia

Hannah Sisson (we have worked with her previously) approached us with a thoughtful concept: her beautiful grandparents were going to be celebrating their golden anniversary this year & Hannah had something special in mind. Of course we agreed immediately! There is more to come of this story (the actual anniversary part) but we included a classic-inspired shoot on the day. None of this would have been possible without the following amazing team:
